Europe’s top professional club basketball competition, Euroleague Basketball, has just finalised a four-year deal with IMG regarding betting and gaming rights.
IMG will now represent Euroleague’s many interests in betting and gaming in order to increase revenues from this field.
IMG already has an association with Euroleague and it provides it with consultancy services aimed primarily at increasing awareness and exposure of Euroleague and Eurocup competitions in many countries all over Europe.
The new deal with IMG will see rights from sponsorship, live streaming and internet coverage being split up and sold separately for the first time in order to bring in increased revenues and bring people to participate even more closely with the matches by betting on them.
Euroleague Basketball was previously associated with digital entertainment giant, bwin, which was its global sponsor for betting and gaming.
Other partners of the Eurleague include title sponsor Turkish Airlines as well as Adidas, Spalding, Efes Pilsener, Citroen, Kyocera Document Solutions and others.
The increased commercialisation of European basketball is good news indeed for the industry which definitely needs an infusion of funds.
Euroleague Basketball is one of the top European sporting properties and it has come a long way from its humble beginnings 15 years ago.
According to Jordi Bertomeu, President and Chief Executive Officer of Euroleague, the replacement of bwin with IMG promises to generate increased revenues for the clubs that are part of the league and is part of the league’s mission to raise awareness and participation in the competitions it organises.
IMG Media’s head, Ioris Francini also told the media that his company was looking forward to increase the marketability of the league and bring in a whole lot of customers.
As one of the global leaders in the business of digital entertainment, IMG will make use of the latest technology in gaming and gambling to provide fans of the sport with the best possible experience.
People like to know that the website they are gambling on has high regard for safety, and customer service is a very important factor here.
Gambling sites also need to have a very stable platform on which customers can make bets easily and without interruption.
Euroleague Basketball’s previous associate, bwin.party had offered a range of betting products around various European club competitions and it offered live streaming of all games of the previous season.
The company also launched apps for iOS and Android to enable customers to access latest updates and live coverage in addition to odds and statistics when they were on the move.
However, Euroleague could definitely benefit from better coverage of the market since the potential is much higher than the current levels of business it is doing.
The new year of Euroleague and Eurocup Basketball looks to be a very exciting one. There is always a great deal of interest in knowing, which teams will make it to the groups of each competition and the draws are broadcast live to enthusisatic audiences all over Europe.
The draw for Eurocup and Euroleague took place on 9 July.
